Igeho and Mefa 2015 have closed their doors: the anniversary edition delighted the visitors who came

From Saturday, 21 to Wednesday, 25 November, Igeho extended an invitation to its 50th anniversary edition in Basel. Over this period, 70 927 professional visitors came to find out about the latest trends in the hotel, restaurant and meat trades and also in food production. Plenty of highlights were in store for the five days. A number of items on the programme, and especially the events in the Igeho Campus and the Chefs' Arena, met with a very good response – not only amongst the visitors but also amongst the media. Hence Ex-Miss Switzerland, Dominique Rinderknecht, and Marco Fritsche, who hosts the TV programme on farmers seeking love, were bold enough to taste the delicacies offered to them by insect cookery book author Andrea Staudacher!
Despite the difficult economic and political climate, the exhibition halls were very well occupied and attracted a high number of visitors. Particularly gratifying was the fact that all the big industry associations had a stand once again, and there were some 90 first-time exhibitors amongst the total of 800 exhibitors who participated. The positive mood that prevailed on all counts – from innovations through to inspirations – is reflected in the great satisfaction expressed by the professional visitors: more than 80% said they were intending to come to the next Igeho│Mefa fair too. This is being staged in Basel from 18 to 22 November 2017.
Overview of the exhibition highlights and accompanying events
The Igeho Campus proved to be a popular meeting point at the exhibition; this new event and meeting platform was launched especially for the anniversary edition. More than 70 experts presented papers and engaged in discussions at the Campus every day, focusing on highly charged issues from the hotel, catering, take-away and care sectors. On Monday, 23 November, starred chef and TV star Johann Lafer proved to be a big attraction. The Restaurant CH was also exceedingly popular, as the project for young professionals at Igeho.
The highlights of Mefa 2015 were the quality competition organised by the Swiss association of the meat trade (SFF), the Swiss Championships for the best retail specialist and meat specialist apprentices and the Swiss Championships in meat platter presentation. The legendary "Metzgerstübli" made for a good atmosphere with the live music it provided every evening, including long after the fair had closed for the day.
The 1st Swiss Hospitality Investment Forum that was held in the Congress Center Basel on 24 and 25 November was well attended and provided the desired food for thought. The other industry events at the fair, including the "Night of the Restaurateurs" and the election of the "Hotelier of the Year" were also extensively used to foster and extend networks.
The anniversary edition of Igeho can be rated as a complete success. "Our satisfied exhibitors and visitors confirm Igeho's position as the most important industry meeting point for Switzerland and the regions over the border", says Exhibition Manager, Dominique Dresel. "Alongside the centrepiece of the fair – the exhibitors with their products – the new Igeho Campus and the Chefs' Arena similarly impressed the visitors. This is something we are proud of."
