How reverberation time is created

Akustik & Raum AG offers innovative solutions for the highest demands. Our MAKUSTIK products ensure a significant improvement in room acoustics in your catering establishment. But what was that again about reverberation time?

Crockery, loud music, construction site noise or whispering: noises of all kinds characterise our everyday lives. These sounds travel in sound waves, which in turn cause our eardrums to vibrate. The vibration leads to impulses that are processed into sounds in our brain. From this point of view, our auricle absorbs the incoming sound waves, which therefore no longer cause any reverberation. The situation is different with those sound waves that have not found their way into the pinna: If the room has not been acoustically treated beforehand, we hear a restless sound that only subsides slowly.

The reverberation time describes the period of time between the silencing of a sound source, i.e. the origin of the sound waves, and the reduction of the reverberation to a defined fraction of the initial value. For example, a reverberation time of four seconds means that the sound can still be perceived for four seconds. Depending on the room and requirements, this period can be perceived as disturbing - and this is where the acoustic solutions from Akustik & Raum come into play. Thanks to customised absorption values and the smallest perforations on the market, we can meet a wide range of individual requirements.
