Already over 2400 gastronomy establishments in six countries are using reCIRCLE's reusable containers. The numbers speak for themselves: in 2022, this environmentally friendly initiative saved over 15 million single-use packages and an impressive 1500 tons of CO2.
The clever concept of reCIRCLE
The concept of reCIRCLE is remarkably simple, yet ingenious: Customers choose a reusable reCIRCLE container for their takeaway orders and pay a deposit, CHF 10.- for BOXes or CHF 5.- for cups. After enjoying their meal, they simply return the reusable packaging or keep it for future use. Once the reCIRCLE container has reached the end of its life cycle, it can be exchanged for a new product or the paid deposit amount at any partner establishment.
Versatility for every need
The reCIRCLE range offers a wide variety of reusable packaging for every purpose. From practical boxes for menus, salads, or soups to the innovative SPIFE cutlery set (Spoon and Knife = Spife) and the ISY reusable cup for hot and cold drinks - the selection leaves nothing to be desired. Even a reusable pizza box is part of the range, contributing to reducing the 40 million pizza boxes consumed annually in Switzerland.
Sustainability in the DNA of reCIRCLE
reCIRCLE containers are made of odorless, non-toxic, and recyclable plastic. They are hygienic, dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, and can be used at least two hundred times. The ecological footprint of these reusable packages after just a few uses is many times better than that of single-use packaging, as their frequent use saves valuable resources. In addition to sustainability in product development, production has also been carbon-neutral since 2020, with CO2 emissions being offset by investments in certified climate protection projects.
A success story with foresight
What began as a small pilot project in 2014 has developed into the world's first industry solution for reusable packaging. Today, about 2000 Swiss gastronomy establishments are part of the reCIRCLE network - from food trucks to large companies. The goal of reCIRCLE is ambitious: to establish a comprehensive reusable system throughout Europe. With around 600 partner locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, and Italy, the company is already well on its way.
